A rococo summer ball at Schloss Bruchsal

my favourite picture!
Hei again,

I've been busy having fun at the rococo ball at Schloss Bruchsal and enjoyed so much meeting friends again, chatting away, strolling around the palace and park, dancing (!!! yay !!!) , admiring great robes, a nice glass of wine and bubbly and, of course, wearing and discussing historical clothing. The exchange of experiences is invaluable and my head is so full of new ideas now! It was such a wonderful day and evening, thank you!
The ball did not have a specific setting timewise (anything 18th century would go). As there was no time to get changed for the ball I had to omit the idea of wearing the Walpole Francaise for the ball, sadly.
I was deciding on wearing my Kyoto Anglaise (1780s), my new V&A stays and having a go at a hedgehog 1780s/90s hairdo (wig based...).
As this was the first time ever to wear the V&A stays I was rather curious how the cane would "behave". And it was a great experience. I was prepared for the usual bit of widening of the fabric during wear, what I did not anticipate was the molding of the canes due to body heat and humidity. This material is just great! The stays shape to body nicely and are SO comfortable! Anyway, back to the ball, here's some pictures.

love the way the skirt moves and the bum :)

hug a tree!

  2. Thank you very much, when I saw the fabric I simply couldn't resist. Just recently I've found it on sale in brown and red and... well, couldn't resist... again...
    Lots of regards to Finland!

    1. Which color did you get? :) It really is an irresistible fabric! I've been looking for a brown floral fabric like this for what feels like ages! Do you know if I can buy the brown version online? That is, if you don't mind me making a dress from the same fabric as you. I've hoped to make a dark robe a l'anglaise like some of these but it's so hard to find a suitable fabric for it: http://www.pinterest.com/SannaMaK/18th-century-dark-floral-robe-%C3%A0-langlaise/

    2. Hei Sanna,
haha, seems we have the same robes on our list! here: http://hertzwerk-freiburg.blogspot.de/2013/12/fabric-is-so-addictive-that-it-should.html
I got the fabric from www.cotton-color.com, They seem to have red left. I've got both red and brown (in my defence, it was a sale!). The fabric is from Moda Fabric, the line French General and the name is "Florence", sometimes it's called "La belle Fleur" (that might be a reprint, not sure, when I bought mine it was called "Florence"). And I don't mind a single bit if you make a robe out of the same fabric, it will never be the same anyway! In fact I find it very interesting to see the same fabric worked on, very inspiring! Love, Kris

    3. Thank you for the quick response! I'm in bad luck - I've tried to look for the brown version everywhere but I can't find it anywhere! D:

  3. Alright, I was actually able to find the brown Maison de Garance fabric from a couple of places! It took me quite a while to look for it but I'm really happy I took that time. Thank you so much for your help, it really is a perfect fabric! :) I actually have to order from at least two sources because nobody has much of it left and I probably won't be able to make a matching petticoat, unless I order from a third source but right now I don't care :) I think a simple white petticoat will look just as nice with it.

    1. Hei! You can save fabric if you make a round gown maybe, I personally like the idea with a white petticoat, too, though. :) Love from Germany, Kris.

    2. Yes, I've thought about it, too, but then again, I'd like to be able to switch the petticoat so I don't know... But today I got an email from another seller and they seem to have more of it left so I might be able to make a matching petticoat after all. We'll see! :)
